Question: I have worked the problems but there was 2 that I wasn't a 100% sure about and 1 that I didn't know what it meant. 1) 7(-2 +1)/3 - -6(2-4)/1-(-4) and I got -47/15 2) 9/16 - (-3/4) and I got 15/16 3) Two numbers have a sum (means to add) of 71. If one number is x, represent the other number as an algebraic expression in x. Okay thanks I understand where I went wrong with the first two but the last one. Wouldn't it be 71+ x since it said the sum which means to add not subtract. I'm confused. ## Best Answers: Can someone help me with my homework? Maurene | 8 days ago
1) 7(-2 +1)/3 - -6(2-4)/1-(-4) Do you mean [ 7(-2 +1)/3 ] - [ -6(2-4)/[1-(-4)] ] ? If so, then the answer would be -71/15. 2) 9/16 - (-3/4) is 21/16 3) the answer is 71 - x

They help people in business predict how much of a product they will need. Also how much cost, profit, revenue, etc. will be gained. They also help construction workers. They use simple formulas to find measurements. Good Luck! Originally Answered: Homework help.?
Well you can figure out interest rates using mathematical formulas so if someone at a bank was trying to find out how much a mortgage would cost their client, they would use a formula to determine that. Also if you are going on a trip, and you know how much mileage your car gets, and you have an estimate of how much on average gas would cost, you can calculate how much fuel will cost for the trip. 1) 7(-2 +1)/3 - -6(2-4)/1-(-4) If this is exactly as given, then proceed as follows. Take care of the things in parentheses first: -2 + 1 = -1 and 2 - 4 = -2. Rewrite the expression with these changes: 7(-1)/3 - -6(-2)/1 - (-4). Now multiply the numbers in the first two terms: 7(-1) = -7 and -6(-2) = 12. Rewrite: -7/3 - 12/1 - (-4). Perform the indicated addition and subtraction: -7/3 - 12 + 4 = -31/3. 2) 9/16 - (-3/4) This is the same as 9/16 + 3/4. The common denominator is 16, so rewrite this as 9/16 + 12/16, or 21/16. 3) Two numbers have a sum (means to add) of 71. If one number is x, represent the other number as an algebraic expression in x. One is x; the other is 71-x, since x + 71 - x = 71.

Firstly, you may need to included [brackets] to make the order of operation clearer to those of us trying to answer your question, but here's my interpretation anyhow. I'll just assume it's something like [7(-2+1)]/3 - [-6(2-4)]/[1-(-4)] Let's work within the parentheses first. So, then we have: [7(-1)]/3 - [-6(-2)]/[1-(-4)] Next, let's multiply: (-7)/3 - 12/[1-(-4)] Then let's subtract and simplify: (-7/3) - (12/5) Then we'll find a common denominator of 15: (-35/15) - (36/15) Which equals -71/15.
