On the new flip BB, does the data plan just give you internet? Can you still have things like aim, text, calling, and email without it?
also, its for t mobile, and can you just get the 5.99 plan instead?

Yes. No provider has an option. The blackberry phones are all designed as business phone with preinstalled internet and other apps that cant be shut down. So if you want a blackberry, you NEED to pay for the data plan. No without internet you cant AIM. It uses AIM designed for smart phones which use internet. Older Aim mobiles were just like a text. You can NEVER have a phone without internet do email. What would send it? And all phones are made to call but ultimatley your answer is yes you must have the data plan.

My boyfriend owns an iPhone and I own a blackberry. We both have just normal T-mobile plans, nothing fancy. If you do anything web related with these phones, they're going to try and sell you something more. If you're basically having it to have it, most likely not.
Verizon Wireless and Alltel (which is now part of Verizon) are the only two US carriers (at this time) that require a BlackBerry data plan when purchasing a BlackBerry device. I am on T-Mobile and have had a BlackBerry without a BlackBerry data plan before. That being said, without a data plan you are more limited in what you can do. You can still call and send text messages. However, things like e-mail, using Facebook and sending picture messages require a data plan. There are work arounds for this but a BlackBerry data plan is your best bet.

Most carriers offer a dedicated "blackberry plan" which is slightly less than the "wide open internet" plan. Your blackberry needs that custom plan to utilize any of its smart-ish features.

if it has to get right of entry to the internet than sure it does by using fact it may develop into fairly high priced while at&t starts off charging by the gigabyte. sorry for the previous due reaction, for 15 dollars a month you get 200mb,for 25 dollars a month you get 2 gb.in case you flow over your alloted quantity at&t will fee your 10 dollars for each extra gb.

There's no smart phone data plan that's both good and cheap. The lowest priced plan is $20/month for 300mb. That means you will not be using much cellular data which is a bummer.
