How do I become famous!?!? Topic: How do I become famous!?!?

Question: I really want to be famous but I have no idea what to do! I know I need to find an agent or something but how? I am 13 years old and I am a dancer. I live in a town near Philly. I did find an audition for a dance show but it's all the way in New York. I don't want to move, but I doubt my mom would want to drive me all the way there every week. I also don't want it to interfere with my other things I do. I still have school, dance class, karate, guitar, and homework. Is it possible to become famous and still do all of this?

As you are still a minor, without your parents support you will go nowhere. Unless you are 13 and look 10 you are also not likely to get work either. You are at the hardest age to book as there isn't much work. Mostly due to labor laws and also because the only place that hires 13 year olds would be Disney or something similar. They hire 16 year olds to be 13 and 13 year olds to be 10. There isn't a lot of work for dancers and there is even less for 13 year old dancers. You say you want fame but dont want to give up anything for it either. You don't want to move, you don't want to give up your extracurriculars and you don't want to give up school, but that is not how it works. Just to work you have to give up friends, and family and all social life and if you get famous you give up even more. You have no privacy. You can't go to the movies with a friend. You cant go to the mall. Why you even have to give up your friends and family just to train enough as anything less than 15 hours of technique classes a week at your age is considered recreational training. If you are doing all these other things, you can't be putting enough into your dancing. On top of that, there aren't a lot of famous dancers either. Actors and singers yes, but not dancers. You should work on building you skills as a dancer. At 13 no matter how much innate talent you have and even if you are born with the body, facility and musicality required for a dance career, you can't really have enough training. As real dance training doesn't start until age 7 or 8 because the body and mind is not mature enough until then, and it take 10 years to "make a leg" in dance, you have a ways to go. Make sure you get the best training and drop your other endeavors to increase your dance training hours. If not, you are just spinning your wheels and really don't want this. You don't become a dancer because you want fame. You become a dancer because you have no choice and you have to dance as much as you have to breath. @Brian- You are dreaming if you think there are talent scouts going to local theaters. There are people knocking down their doors and sending video tapes to them 24/7. That would be an agent as talent scouts only exist in sports now. They don't have to go anywhere to hunt for talent as talent is tracking them down all the time. Agents are where the work is and that is in a big city venu. They usually wont bother with anyone who hasn't already worked professionally. You cannot get anyone important to go and see a small production unless they have a family member in it. I know Juilliard students who still don't have an agent. * Brian- who does your uncle work for? CAMI or Ellen Jacobs or another big management firm? They have no scouts. He scouts for a local theater so if one day someone becomes famous they will make a donation. That is what you said isn't it? Who has he discovered in dance that he made famous? Just one name will do please. Thank you. We are talking about professionals here not a scout for a community theater group. There are none of those anymore. They went the way of the 7 year contracts in Hollywood in the mid 1960s. They are no more.

Mintchips has pretty much said it all but I have to comment on what Brian (Cash) said. Brian's Uncle's "Just Off Broadway" is in Kansas City... hardly just off of Broadway. More like 1,200 miles away from Broadway. Not exactly the entertainment capital of the world, unless everyone is leaving NYC and L.A. to run to Kansa City to be a "star." I admire his loyalty to his family, but he really has no grasp of how the professional world of theater or dance works.

In order to get to be the famous person you wanna be, there is a lot to do. There are 2 routes I can think of at this moment. One route would be to find a local theater and join a musical or any other type of play taht has dancing in it there. Dance good, and since talent agents visit those places ALL THE TIME (the smaller ones are made for people to go there, and then make it. They do this in hopes of someone becoming a big shot and remembering where they came from by donating dough $) and trying to impress one of them. If you catch their eye, then they will ask the director who was the _______? They will be directed to you, and they will ask you for some type of test to prove your potential. If you make it through that, they will keep you on board with dance opportunities and eventually you will be taken by a better type of talent man of some sort. They will do the same thing pretty much and try to get you into many different dancing genres so that you can make it in the real world with them. This would be my preferred method, however there is also a different route that I think would have decent chances of working. You could try in dance classes to get good enough to impress a talent scout or agent to do essentially the same thing as the first route. If you don't want a huge life change, you could just do what many people do. Get good at multiple styles and then as an older person, audition for a dance school. If you make it then you will train there until you are recruited by a dance company to dance for them. Work your way up until you make the biggest and best companies. The are other routes though too.... This will get you on TV. Wait until you are old enough (I think it's 16), and then audition enough to make it onto one of the dance shows like So You Think You Can Dance or Dancing With The Stars. I really wish you the best of luck with this. @ mintchip49--- hello? Yeah they do. That is what my uncle does. His theater just does that in hopes of people donating money after they make it. Yeah, they do. Mintchip49 is wrong in that aspect. The rest of what he says is good though. My uncle doesn't work for a company. He owns the theater. Their main goal is to get young actors/dancers/singers (His cast has to be good at all three.) to work for them for some plays until they make it by getting noticed. If anyone makes it, the theater reminds them "Hey, remember me? Will you help us out with some money?" I'm not lying. Here's the theater's link http://www.justoffbroadway.org/index.htm... I am talking about professionals. To be a professional dancer, actor, whatever you want to be, you don't need to have a list that goes like "Ballet academy trained. Dance grad of LaGuardia Arts high school (the FAME school.) Graham & Horton modern trained. Juilliard SI. BFA in dance from NYU Tisch. Currently choreographing major music videos while performing in a world renown concert contemporary company." You don't need that. If you have the talent, you can become a dancer. With or without lessons from NYU Tisch BFA. You can start out at a small place like I described. It's not a dream. It's a way to make it. Most people aren't daughters of NYCB dancers. BTW asker, to get famous isn't the hellish nightmare of losing everything you love. You can keep that stuff if you are still normal. If you look like Lady Gaga, you won't be able to blend in. Even the top of the A list members have lives.
