Question: I just broke up with my girlfriend of two years and now I live in Rockford IL and don't know anybody. My friends in the suburbs are cool but its so expensive to live out there and I'm getting tired of this cold weather. I have many talents including drums and the new emerging art of fushigi, a wonderful magical practice. My bi-weekly paycheck comes out to about $500 and I have a friend who will by my car for $1500 cash...leaving me with $2000 to leave here and travel to a tourist hot spot (like key west, florida) to display my talents and really live life on the edge. Not to brag but I am good looking intelligent and talented. I think there is a good possibility I could make it out there. My family and friends would think I'm crazy if I asked them this so hence why I'm here. The most valuable service I could offer out there would be Tarot Cards. I am a professional Tarot reader and practitioner and think it would be a wise investment but also a risky gamble. Just thought it would be interesting to get some unbiased opinions. I have no ties here, nothing. The only thing keeping me here is gravity...so why not risk it all for a reward that would be well worth it in the end. Life is short and I know our time here is precious so any suggestions? I understand but we can't forget I'd be getting money for my street performances. Right???

If you think living in the suburbs in Illinois is expensive, you have no idea what you are looking at if you are thinking of relocating to Key West. You need to take your car with you so you will be assured of a place to live. You say you are good looking, intelligent and talented. Let's look at the intelligent claim. An intelligent person would make a VIABLE plan. If your bi-weekly check is $500. Wait until you have a few more of those checks. If an intelligent person claims the most valuable service they could offer would be to read tarot cards.... I question the level of intelligence. You also need to do some homework. There is a license required to do Tarot and fortune telling. You need to find out how much it is. Some counties have additional strictures, see this link: http://www.stpetersburgtimes.com/News/02... There is also licensing for street entertainers. If you don't want to get arrested, (and what good looking, intelligent and talented person does?) you will find out what the requirements are before selling your car and pulling up stakes. $2000 will go pretty quickly if you have to use it for bail and fines. You have to have a place to live because they don't issue those licenses to people who don't have addresses. "The only thing keeping me here is gravity...so why not risk it all for a reward that would be well worth it in the end." Intelligent people look before they leap.

So... with out talking about the money needed to live in the Keys ( which the other people area right it is outrageously expensive to live there) Here are the facts: Tarot readers are a dime a dozen there. To truly make it as a performer in key west you have to be unique, you have to be able to do something that most others can't. Most people now a days can find a tarot reader in their own town. I would suggest taking a trip down there if you can and checking the place out, give it a try for a week. Do your homework and see whats need to busk down there http://www.sunsetcelebration.org/index.h... Good luck. It's not an easy life, despite being in paradise.

Okay, this might sound mean, but I have to say it. You're a tarot reader - so maybe you should consult your own cards? If you can't read for yourself, shoot me an email, I'll see what I can do. But seriously, use your own cards; since you're a pro, you must give some good advice. I think they'd be able to point out flaws in your plan or anything you overlooked as well as providing a good alternative plan, if necessary.

If you think Illinois is expensive then you will FAINT when you see the PRICES FOR RENTALS in Key West... That $2000 of yours MAY be just about enough to rent a cheap, piece of crap trailer in one of those miserable trailer courts on Key West... EVERYTHING in Key West is EXPENSIVE.. it's a town designed to SOAK THE TOURISTS and they do a pretty good job of it. I have a captain's license and I used to take a group of vacationers to Key Wet ocne a week. I stayed at the GARRISON BIGHT MARINA because it is the closest one to MALLORY DOCKS and DOWNTOWN but it cost me $4 PER FOOT PER NIGHT which was $160 PER NIGHT for the boat and THAT WAS CHEAP.. the Yacht Club was even more. In the Keys they charge you for EVERYTHING.. and if all you have is $2000 then you will very quickly become just ANOTHER FLORIDA FLOP heading back north with no money.

If you have no ideas, then I guess you will never enter the contest. Just go with whatever you think sounds cool. Don't doubt your ideas.. xP
