Is misogyny benign? Topic: Is misogyny benign?

Question: Why is it so hard for people to say THIS MYSOGYNY IS UNACCEPTABLE! I answered another question - two in total and two reported - so please critique this answer and explain why you think it was reported. "I'm not surprised. Sadly, there are a lot of men who do blame women for their problems and we even see them every day here doing the same thing. People pretend they are benign when they should not assume this. It is a negative aspect of some men that many women experience but men often turn a blind eye to ( I see the denials it's true but mostly from men ) That is the problem - many of these people are too weak and sexist themselves to say simply - THIS MYSOGYNY IS UNACCEPTABLE! I asked a question about this yesterday and of course many would not say this simple thing and then it was deleted. This shows the denial some men have for what other men are doing to women out of hate. They are pretending it is not happening and say they do not believe the statistics and are in complete denial. We know the same thing happened in the Montreal massacre where 14 women were gunned down for the fact that they were women and it happens so much now on an individual basis, that is deemed normal and not even news anymore. When women try to talk about it they are shamed - told they have a "victim mentality". It was also been studied. Check out the source." Gender Studies - please post this!

I think the post was well within the TOS, and did not warrant deletion. If people take issue with your opinions they should refute them with words rather than trying to silence you through the bureaucracy, an act that I find rather cowardly and underhanded on their part to begin with. I myself often write posts that are quite a bit less tame and have only had a few deleted. Though I could see how this one could be framed a little differently in tone, although I'm not sure how much it would help. I might have soft peddled the first sentence with something like this. "Unfortunately, there is a small handful of very vocal men who feel women are at fault for the difficulties they face in their lives" It would have pointed a narrower finger while acknowledging their perception of the situation, but clearly stating that the perception is the result of them externalizing their locus of control rather than excepting some degree of responsibility for their actions having an influence on their own situation. The rest of the paragraph seems mostly OK though it could use a few preface points here and there to keep the focus tight, but that is more a matter of style, and sometimes a little bold concision makes things easier to read. I can't really comment on any particular cases trends or statistics without evaluating them further, but it is not to uncommon for people to scim over the same material and come to vary different opinions. When someone hits an article very quickly they are likely to only take from it what they brought with them in the first place.

Yes. I was brought up in a fundamentalist religion and was told I had to be submissive, told how to dress, and how to behave. On pain of eternal damnation. (That is true - "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft" and of course, the wages of sin is death.) I was friends with a very strict Jewish woman - she told that Jewish women are treated "like crap" - her words, not mine. One memorable Sabbath she told me that women whose elbows were showing, were ranted at as being "harlots". Edit: Reading from your posts - the reason I am so interested in GS is my fear of the rising of fundamentalism - and not only of Christianity, which is where I came from. Few people here have any experience of the kind of religion you are talking, but believe me, it exists today.

misogyny is not acceptable - but equally you people throw the term around so much its pretty meaningless - didnt you say seat belts were misogynistic the other day ?? like they dont test them on women or something you said ?? if seatbelts are misogyny, I dont know what you want me to do about it, honestly.

You don't even have to look at statistics to know women get treated badly, just look at some of the questions they post on here about how they can deal with their boyfriends abusing them.

Censorship is bad, m'kay.....but I can totally see how somebody could spin a report of ranting out of the above. The thing is, some peeps report just because they can, or because they dislike you personally. Is there an organized group with an agenda targeting your posts? Hmmm.....seems a little on the paranoid & delusional end of the pool...... I would line this up under troll activities here.....but I could be wrong.... As for your title question - it's flaming. It begs for reporting, and no report monkey is going to be able to pass that up. Mysogyny is a symptom of a sick community. It is counter intuitive and goes against the natural order of life. It is unacceptable, but.....big BUT - *some* individuals have used the fight for equal rights to grind their own personal axe. Now that made some of the moderate men combative. Again, as a species we screwed the pooch....we have grown & bred societies that go against the obvious nature of humanity.....we belong in family units & family units are of multiple genders. Some how we turned this into a war. Another symptom of our sick culture.
