I think Jack is a bringer of anarchy, and represents anarchy, and he represents authoritarianism and military discipline. He is cruel and sadistic, and these tendencies increase throughout the novel as he becomes farther and farther removed from civilized mores. He rejects order on the island, leading to bloody anarchy based on his own interests, with violent and tragic results.
I have not read Lord of the Flies in about forty years, but here are quite a few sites the will help you with the novel, most of which analyze the story, discuss themes and symbolism and other literary devices, and give character sketches.

I think he has a strong desire for power and brings anarchy to build his own power base. He doesn't want full anarchy however.
Unlike Ralph, he gets off on power and abuses his position above others (think about Jack Merridew at the beginning of the novel, letting Simon faint under his watch). If Ralph is made better through his role as chief, Jack is corrupted by it, becoming worse and worse as he gains more and more control over the others.
Yet while Ralph clings to the rules and order of his British upbringing, Jack revels in the fact that there are no grown-ups! He gets to swear, play war games, hunt things, and paint his face, without risking being sent to his room for playing rough and accidentally killing the neighbors.

Bringer of anarchy.
He actually represents the part of the mind called the "id"; that is, the unconscious part of the mind thats main purpose is self preservation and pleasure.

Ralph is much closer to anarchy.
Jack brings authoritarianism, warfare, and hierarchy in general.
Anarchism is an opposition to hierarchy (and the state is one kind of hierarchy).
