Why should marijuana be illegal? Topic: Why should marijuana be illegal?

Question: Here's some points to take into account and make an attempt to rebut: 1. People are going to smoke pot whether the government wants them to or not. They are not going to not do it just because it's illegal. 2. It would mean less deaths and injuries. Most street killings involve drugs. There are battles and confilcts with dealers and clients, as well as opposing dealers. It would save the police time and money. 3. Less crowded prisons, less taxes for you. There are so many people in prison because of just possesing pot. They have to be given meals and shelter. This is a purden on the taxpayer and can ruin a young person's life. 4. It does not affect anyone other than the person taking it. It should be illegal in public, but not in a private home. An adult can make their own desicion. Some people argue that it is to protect people from hurting their bodies. Does this mean we should outlaw knifes? 5. MJ should be regulated and taxed. Right now, street dealers are making all the $. Also: -Studies have shown some beneficial effects of marijuana, including preventing alzheimers. there are lots more reasons to legalize. The FBI has lots and lots of agents assigned to preventing the smuggling of drugs and fghting the war on drugs. Those agents could be reassigned to the more important cases which involve terror plots on American soil.

1. People are going to smoke pot whether the government wants them to or not. They are not going to not do it just because it's illegal. And you're saying this wouldn't help people doing it at all?! look a the people who drink alcohol, or smoke cigarettes to the number of people who smoke marijuana. people don't want to get caught. 2. It would mean less deaths and injuries. Most street killings involve drugs. There are battles and confilcts with dealers and clients, as well as opposing dealers. It would save the police time and money. marijuana is NOT the only drug...there are SO many more.. plus, it would hearm the overall health of human beings (and unless the police in your world are robotic, it would harm them as well) 3. Less crowded prisons, less taxes for you. There are so many people in prison because of just possesing pot. They have to be given meals and shelter. This is a burden on the taxpayer and can ruin a young person's life. Do you know how many people can go OFF drugs by being forced off of it and into prson? people recognize how good it feels to be able to feel happy without a drug... and stop doing it!! and isn't that what taxes SHOULD be about? helping people? and this DOES!! 4. It does not affect anyone other than the person taking it. It should be illegal in public, but not in a private home. An adult can make their own desicion. Some people argue that it is to protect people from hurting their bodies. Does this mean we should outlaw knifes? ...you're joking, right? It affects ALL people connected with anyone taking it. if someone is high, who's to say they're not going to go out INTO public AFTER smoking! many murders, rapes, and robberies are commited by people who are high. are you saying you want to INCREASE that number?! *also relates to second point, and would cause more stress on police 5. MJ should be regulated and taxed. Right now, street dealers are making all the $. Street dealers will make money regardless. Why don't we start allowing heroin! ecstasy!! cocaine!! oh, wait...then street dealers will become pimps. they'll make money regardless, and it's not like the American economy is suffering any. Also, pt 6. -Studies have shown some beneficial effects of marijuana, including preventing alzheimers. A: What studies? if you're not going to ow any sources, i'll combat it with my own remembrances. B: that's like saying that lightning yourself on fire is a good idea because it keeps you warm. You're not looking at the cons of the situation. this drug endangers your health and harms your intellectual system. 7: FBI agents as stated earlier, marijuana is not the only drug, FBI agents will still be combating the war on drugs, just different drugs, and to combat the followup argument (that we should legalize other drugs) That's just not logical. these illegal drugs are illegal for a reason. are we going to challenge our government? Thanks, that was fun, it's hard to find things to do this with outside of debate season. don't know why people keep saying things that have nothing to do with the points you asked them specifically to refute. Ah well. Neferiel

I just answered a question from you. The one where you defended law enforcement. So, of course, you would not see why marijuana should not be legalized. And you would paint it as some horrible drug. Hey, dont you know by now, you can find anything on the internet to support your contention? Right or wrong, realistic or not, you can find it. I read your "proof" of marijuana being bad. But as a smoker for many, many years, I think it is like everything else. In moderation, it is fine. I havent robbed a store to get more. I havent had a heart attack and I am 53 years old. I am far from stupid, as I have a masters degree. I am not some social deviant as I am a responsible individual that has successfully raised two great kids, volunteered in my community and am a good neighbor and American citizen. Landowner, too. When I am out, no big deal, Im not "jonesing" at every moment that goes by I dont have any weed. I have NEVER compromised my integrity or personal class while under marijuanas influence, EVER. So, I compeltely blow your whole case out of the water, dont I dude? It is not legal because the pharmacy companies dont want it to be. It is also not legal because there are maijuana by products, such as clothing material, that is far better than cotton or other materials, cheaper to make and more durable, so the cotton industry doesnt want it legal. Did you know the oil made from the seeds of marijuana are more healthy as cooking oil then the ones out now? Doubt it, but it is. So, that whole industry doesnt want it legal. And lets not forget the paper industry. It is a fact that Oh God, I cannot remember his name, but it is totally well known, was against it as he owned a paper industry and marijuana plants would be cheaper to make paper out of, then his tree farm. SO, IT IS CLEARLY A MONEY THING. But hopefully, those of us with common sense will prevail as now California has actually filed to have marijuana compeltely legal, not exclusively for medical use. An individuals life should NOT be ruined just because he smokes a little weed. And right now, lives are being ruined. Jails are full of marijuana possessions, complete with individuals with criminal records now. Maybe you should try it. You might not find it so bad, you might actually like it.

Well alcohol used to be illegal. It was called Prohibition. During that time, people smuggled liquor and made lots of money. The were called bootleggers. Secret clubs sprang up around cities where people would go to drink. People souped up their cars just so they could outrun the police when they were bootlegging. Organized crime also got involved in this business. The government saw what was happening and decided to make alcohol legal and tax it. As far as marijuana, it's a bit harder to track. Alcohol have been made by companies for hundreds of years. They use bottling and marketing to sell their products. With marijuana, it's a bit different. There are some cases where marijuana is legal for medical purposes. However if weed was legal, it would be difficult for the goevrnment to regulate and tax it. There are no real companies growing marijuana so it will be difficult. It may also be that they think it could lead to harder drugs. Marijuana sales also fund other illegal activities and so it has remained illegal.

Very good points. However, I believe taxes would be about the same since the government has to provide anti-marijuana programs, the same way Alcoholics and Gambling Annoynomous works, as well as create a MADD type organization for impaired driving. Also, in countries like the Netherlands where they have legalized the green stuff, they also tax the crud out of it the way we do with cigarettes. Hell, this new influx of money can support "Weeding Annoynomous" and "MAHD" by itself with enough money left over to find a cure for cancer. But, hey, Bush and the next president isn't going to do that any time soon because they still live in the fifties. "By," trust me, it's not hard to figure out who's the pothead in a group. Lukas_m_something....whatever...ever heard of organized crime? Urban gangs? These guys are the ones who kill each other for the green stuff. This guy nailed point 2 right on the head.

I have living proof (three males) next door why it shouldn't be legalized. I went to school with the oldest male. All of them constantly smoke pot and have made nothing of themselves literally. I personally do not want to be behind a car with a person smoking pot, much less a cigar. People aren't going to jail for pot (at least here), they are going for things like carjacking, theft, etc. Heck, people claim "crazy" for free meals/bed in the hospital. It does affect others like alcohol and cell phones do; think of how many more accidents will occur!! It may be "okay" at home, but what about the ones who get behind the wheel? I had an asthma attack from a guy who must have just smoked it before coming into EB. Street dealers have a limited lifespan (or should).

Pot should never became illegal in the 1st place The basis for it becoming illegal has been proven to be false

as far as i see it...the alcohol companies have their pockets open to the government...the pot people have nothing to offer them to tantalize them into legalizing it...oh im sorry, did you think there was some kind of fairness in the way government works... and also..they say it would be too hard to regulate the driving circumstances...u know, like for alcohol its the .08 %....nice excuse...

Who says it should? And as for point 2, potheads don't go around killing each other over pot, or robbing people for money to buy pot. Do your research better.

yea, so if marijuana was legal, it would be so much easier to get, and there would be more ppl smoking it, and our world would turn into a world of potheads. need i say more? they may as well make alcohol and cigarettes illegal too, our world would be a much better place!

Depends on who you get it from I'm more afraid of what alcohol is doing to people than what Mary Jane is. Legalize it, regulate it and tax the hell out of it. So many problems solved in one instance. Though, for legitmate health concerns it can cause lung cancer, memory problems, stunted growth, and a serious case of the munchies.
