Question: Hello everyone :) I'm a writer and I write poetry music and books but lately it seems that I've been having some extreme writers block. I was wondering if anyone can give me any useful tips or advice to rid or at-least lessen this. Apparently people say I'm talented but I myself don't think so but I want to please the people so please help me out. Thank you for hearing me out as well as helping me. :)

hi there! although I'm not a veteran in creative writing, I'm a practicing journalist so I do understand (very much) how you feel at the moment (because i suffer from occasional writers block too). Number 1 cause of writers block is pressure to produce a story. AND in your case, pressure to write in it a way that your readers will appreciate. Just let it flow. Enjoy the writing process. Do you find the joy in writing stories or poem for that matter? If so, there is absolutely no need to please them as long as your doing it for yourself. Praises will follow. Number 2. Do you follow a routine or do you have to establish a certain mood or ambiance before writing? I'm nocturnal so I'm mostly effective (writing-wise) 9-12 midnight or sometimes 12 midnight -2am (I'm mostly bothered by even light noises). So find your most suitable working environment. Number 3. Maybe the reason why you cant write is because you have this so-called information overload or 'idea'-overload (you dont know where to start). Refresh your mind first by doing other activities that require you less thinking (anything entertaining). Staring on a blank paper or doc frustrated and agitated will not help you. It will only lead to procrastination in the long run. So after having a fresh head start, get back to work and organize and reorganize your thoughts. Number 4. Dont drink or eat anything with caffeine (for the moment). Trust me on this. :) Good Luck! :))

ive read in a psychology book that, to get rid of writers block or any creative block even for painters or musicians, psychologists advise people to put up a large piece of white or black paper or something up on a wall outside or in a den or something and throw lots of colorful paints at it. like get into it and just throw them on the paper or the wall or canvas or whatever. apparently it induces certain emotions and when you throw paint in a messy way in order to make a mess, youre actually throwing chunks of your block. psychologically. im a painter and ive tried it a couple of times and it does help to a certain extent. its also quite a lot of fun and takes your mind off having to come up with an idea.

it sounds like your low-self esteem could be affecting your work. this always works for me, whether i have writers block, or am just stressed. Go out into nature somewhere, whether its a bike ride, or just a walk. if you live in the city or something like that, then go to a park. just stay there for a while and spend time by yourself. i guarantee it will help

"Write about what you know!" advice of a poetry professor, passed on to someone who passed it on to me, and I pass it on to you. Writers block is a common occurrence. Use it to write a poem about the very subject. That's my tiny contribution to your question. I know you'll get it back. Best wishes, and looking forward to reading one of your poems posted here.
